Why do you use a PhaseOne Camera?
When Elysian Studio was started, we set out to capture nature and people in the most splendid way possible, but we also continued to find weaknesses in our equipment. One camera’s sensor was too small, the next was falling apart randomly while on shooting, the next created a funny pattern when the ISO was turned up. After about 7 years of different cameras we found our way to PhaseOne and have been continuously been amazed at their products, technology, and customer service. Founded in 1994 PhaseOne is a Denmark based company and is a trendsetter in digital photography, they set the bar for digital reproduction.
What are the IQ3 100 Trichromatic and Achromatic sensors?
PhaseOne has made four generations of the IQ family. The IQ3 are 100 megapixel 645 medium format sensors. This means that the sensor itself is the same size as traditional size 645 film and in that size are 100 megapixels. This allows us to specialize in large prints and life-size portraits!
The “Trichromatic” and “Achromatic” sensor have types of filters that are or are not on top of the sensor. ALL sensors when created from the factory are black and white! In order for sensors to “see” in color a Bayer Filter must be placed on top of the sensor and then all the images recorded are in color. PhaseOne created a special Bayer Filter that is more stringent and placed this on the sensor and the results are more realistic, true-to-life color, and captures people of color with greater authenticity. The Achromatic is a 100 megapixel sensor that has no filter placed on top of it and therefore records everything in black and white only. PhaseOne is the only company to create full-frame medium format black and white sensors.
Who and what is Cambo and Rodenstock?
Rodenstock is a German based company and has been creating state-of-the-art optics since 1877. They build the HR Digaron lenses which can meet the enormous image quality demands of modern digital camera backs up to a minimum of 100 megapixels. Rodenstock is the direct compliment to PhaseOne: the lens is what is actually rendering the scene for the sensor, or film, to capture.
Cambo is a Netherlands based company that has a reputation for high quality, precision engineered camera bodies, stands and other studio equipment. They focus on technical solutions that allow for unrivaled flexibility and application. This allows for Elysian to have any necessary abilities to put the camera in position to focus on YOU and contribute to the most authentic representation of YOU!
What is the difference between Hahnemühle Cézanne Canvas and Canon Pro Luster?
Since 1584 Hahnemühle has been making paper for painting and photography. “Founded back in 1584 as a paper mill in South Lower Saxony’s Solling uplands, Hahnemühle developed – strictly according to the spirit of its founding fathers – into a customer-oriented and innovative manufacturing facility.”
Elysian uses Hahnemühle for all fine art portraits and landscapes. Specifically, we print onto Cézanne Canvas is a museum quality, cotton-only, heavyweight canvas that produces deep blacks and spectacular color.
Cannon Pro Luster Photo Paper is an industry and educational standard paper utilized world-wide. Because Canon produces their own sensors, camera, lenses, printers, and paper, the quality of each component must be of the highest quality. Their photo paper has amazing consistency and when you receive a print you are guaranteed life-like representation of the landscape or persons!
How long does it take to get my proofs and prints?
We are able to produce the proofs from your session IMMEDIATELY after our session is done. Elysia’s photoshoots are connected to a laptop and this allows for the edits to be applied as the image is being taken! One of the marquee advantages of working with Elysian is the quality and speed that we produce the images of the ones you love.
Printed images take about 2-8 weeks to be created and delivered. We print every image by hand and place those images into frames ordered from ArtToFrame. Elysian takes every measure to combine your custom elements together in a high-quality fashion to last your, and your grandchildren’s, lifetime.
